Ubuntu on Raspberry Pi

Raspberry Pi(Edit)

Minimal computer based on ARM processor. I own the PI 3B, so I will focus on it. Onboard wifi and such. Main lines still can be backported with caution.

Installing headless Ubuntu server(Edit)

Prefer class 10 SD card to avoid bottleneck [1]. Nicely covered here

Booting(Edit)

Multiple images are available from ubuntu-pi-flavour-maker.or, my choice went with Ubuntu server which I already know.

To flash the card, use Etcher.io or similar.

First start(Edit)

User: ubuntu

Password: ubuntu

Scan the network to check for ubuntu host or new IP. SSH then allows for headless configuration.

Troubleshooting(Edit)

Error with the hostname not resolved(Edit)

Caused by not having it in your /etc/hosts[2]. Add the line:

127.0.0.1 <your_hostname>

Error with the Wifi adapter not showing up(Edit)

Caused by a damaged/missing driver[3]. Replace it with:

cd /lib/firmware/brcm/
sudo cp brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin.bak
sudo wget https://github.com/RPi-Distro/firmware-nonfree/raw/master/brcm80211/brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin
sudo wget https://github.com/RPi-Distro/firmware-nonfree/raw/master/brcm80211/brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio.txt

And replace the originals using mv, with y to overwrite the file. Reboot. Done.
